Heartburn and Indigestion During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, it’s normal for women to get heartburn and indigestion. Although it’s normal, it isn’t fun and it doesn’t make you very comfortable, so it’s important to know how to properly deal with your indigestion and heartburn during your pregnancy so you can stay comfortable and happy throughout the whole nine months.

First of all, you need to know that your hormones are causing changes in your body every single day. Heartburn and indigestion during pregnancy is just one of the many side effects of these hormonal changes your body is going through. It’s like glowing or splotchy skin; it’s a little like morning sickness. When your hormone levels get higher, this can cause digestive problems such as indigestion and even diarrhea, and in the case of some pregnancies, vomiting, which is also known as morning sickness.

Heartburn and indigestion during your pregnancy will likely increase as the baby within you grows. When this happens, heartburn is caused because it’s likely that the placenta is pressing up on the stomach. You may also find that one of the causes of heartburn and indigestion during pregnancy is lying down after you eat, so it’s important to try sitting up until your meal has been digested. This will help to ensure that the baby isn’t adding additional pressure to your stomach while it’s full. Often, just doing this can help to prevent heartburn.

Instead, you should try getting plenty of exercise, because this will help to ease stress and hormones, also make sure to avoid things such as coffee, spicy foods and avoid consuming too much liquid with your meals, but between meals, make sure to drink plenty of water, as this can dilute the stomach acids. Also, try not to lie down after you eat and keep yourself in an upright position.

For the most part, heartburn and indigestion during pregnancy is perfectly normal and nothing much to worry about. If it feels unbearable or becomes too painful or your find that you’re throwing up blood or have black stools then you should talk to your doctor to make sure that you don’t have a more serious condition. In the mean time, try to relax and take it easy, your heartburn will end soon enough, so try not to worry and watch what you eat in the mean time.
