Understanding the causes of heartburn and knowing what the condition can do to your body are the first things you should do in order to conquer this very common illness. Despite its name, heartburn does not have anything to do with the heart or the circulatory system. Instead, it is a digestive problem characterized by the regurgitation of acids in the stomach back into the lower esophagus. The logic behind the name is that when heartburn occurs, a person would feel such intense pain in the chest area, which is quite similar to the feeling of suffering from a heart attack.

Why Does Heartburn Happen?
