Acid Reflux Symptoms, Causes and Treatments
Have you been hearing a lot about acid reflux, but aren’t quite sure if you have it or not? Acid Reflux Symptoms
The symptoms of acid reflux are known most often as heartburn or indigestion. You will most often find that you suffer from a burning sensation that rises from the stomach, into the chest cavity. The causes of acid reflux have to do with “triggers”, which cause the stomach to make more acid than it should or affect the esophageal sphincter’s ability to close and create a tight seal, which prevents the symptoms of acid reflux. That being said, you should know what some of the triggers of this condition are.
Your diet, or the foods you eat and the beverages you drink can be a trigger and cause of acid reflux. For instance, certain alcoholic beverages and caffeinated beverages can cause your stomach to produce more acid and that can lead to your symptoms. You should also know that by eating certain fried or fatty foods, you increase your chances of getting acid reflux. In addition to this, lying down too soon after you eat, engaging in too much activity after you eat and smoking are also triggers to your symptoms and can cause you to experience heartburn.
Acid Reflux Treatments
You might find that you can find temporary relief of acid reflux symptoms by taking an over the counter acid reducer or an antacid, but over time, you should consider seeking other alternatives when working to treat your condition. You can make giant leaps with easing your condition by watching what you eat and how much you eat. Cut back on the caffeine, alcohol and greasy or fatty foods. Drink more water and eat plenty of healthy green leafy greens, whole grains and low fat proteins.
Stop smoking. This is thought to be one of the main causes of acid reflux, as the smoke irritates the esophagus and stomach. If you smoke and suffer from this condition, it is unlikely that you will find any relief from your symptoms if you don’t stop.
Eat smaller meals and wait longer before you lie down. Usually, if you eat a large meal and go lie down, you will find that your symptoms are worse than they would be if you stayed upright and, as an added bonus, you will likely find that you lose a little bit of weight from eating smaller meals.
If you suffer from acid reflux, you need to know that you can work to improve your overall health and prevent your symptoms with just a few simple steps and get back to feeling good again.
