What Are The Causes of Acid Reflux In Children?
Posted by Charles · Leave a Comment
Acid reflux in many kids is caused from different things. With infants, the cause is often that their stomachs are not properly developed yet, and the muscle that separates the esophagus from the stomach doesn’t create a tight enough seal to prevent acid from climbing into the esophagus. Also, babies have the tendency to overeat, or eat too quickly and this can also cause their problems with acid reflux.
You will likely find that your baby outgrows their condition rather quickly, however, so you should try to ease their pain and keep them upright for a while after they eat to help them to better digest their food without feeling uncomfortable.
Small children are often trying new foods, including acidic fruits and spicy foods. Many of these foods don’t sit well with little tummies and can cause symptoms of this condition, but that doesn’t mean that it will continue forever. In order to help your child to feel good and avoid symptoms, make sure to introduce new foods slowly and in small amounts while your child’s stomach becomes accustomed to the new acids and flavors of “grown up” foods. In order to help your child avoid acid reflux, make sure to eat dinner early enough that your child has some time to digest while being upright and offer them plenty of water throughout the day to help reduce the acid in the stomach.
Your teen might experience acid reflux due to poor diet and changing hormones. Encourage them to eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water and to get plenty of exercise, which will help them to balance their hormones and feel better overall.
When your child suffers from acid reflux, it can feel as if you have done something to hurt them, but you should know that kids are exposed to all sorts of foods and drinks that can affect the way their stomachs feel and by working to keep your child eating healthy and staying comfortable, you will likely find that they outgrow their acid reflux in no time.
