You should know that many cases of acid indigestion pain are just occasional and nothing to worry about. If you are one of the many who has occasional heartburn, you can probably ease your pain by taking an antacid. For the millions of people out there who have frequent heartburn, however, you might find that you do better to discover the cause of your acid indigestion so that you can treat it properly.
Frequent acid indigestion pain usually occurs from problems such as ulcers, acid reflux disease or stomach infections. You may find that you have vomiting and diarrhea to go with your acid indigestion pain and you will likely experience gas and bloating in addition to the heartburn you feel. Many times, if you suffer from these symptoms frequently, then it’s a good idea to seek medical attention for your problem to make sure that you aren’t suffering with a heart attack or have a more serious problem.
That being said, many people who suffer with acid indigestion pain may begin to realize that their lifestyle is the leading cause of their symptoms so it might be a good idea to look at some of these areas to see what you can change. For instance, if you smoke or drink alcohol, you may be more likely to experience heartburn than others who do not. The nicotine in cigarettes tends to irritate the esophagus and the esophageal sphincter, which can cause it to not work correctly and not create the proper seal, which will in turn cause you to feel acid indigestion. Also, in the case of alcohol consumption, many type of alcoholic beverages tend to be hard on the stomach and cause it to make more acid in an effort to safely digest it. If you have frequent heartburn you should avoid these triggers.
You may also find that you suffer from acid indigestion pain when you eat too much or eat greasy, high fat foods. Consider eating several smaller meals a day and try to cut out the amount of greasy, fatty foods you consume if you are trying to get rid of your heartburn.
In the case of lifestyle changes, it is likely that you will notice your acid indigestion pain eases up almost immediately. Should you require medication to treat your frequent heartburn, however, you might find that it takes a few days for your medications to relieve all of your acid indigestion pain.
